President's Letter

MANS&C members and guests had a rare opportunity at our recent Annual Meeting – the chance to have a frank and open conversation with Massachusetts Lt. Governor Karyn Polito.

She outlined the Baker-Polito administration’s priorities, expressed her thoughts on the recent acquisition of Mount Ida College by UMass Amherst and, most importantly, asked us to share our ideas with her.

Only MANS&C can give you that kind of access to the state’s most important political leaders.  Like Lt. Governor Polito, we believe in the importance of conversations.  By sharing our ideas and our concerns with local officials and working out solutions when issues arise, we can prevent them from escalating into legislative bills that would have a far-reaching effect on our economic stability and independence.

When issues do become bills, MANS&C members are fortunate to have Legislative Counsel John J. Spillane there to explain their negative consequences at committee hearings and in personal meetings with legislators.

His work has not gone unnoticed.  “You have great leadership in John,” Lt. Governor Polito said.  “He is well-respected and highly regarded at the State House.  You’re in good hands with him.”

MANS&C’s annual membership drive is coming up.  We urge our institutional and sponsorship members to renew their membership and nonmembers to join us.  If you’re a member of another organization, consider this:  you’ll be doubling your influence on Beacon Hill by becoming a MANS&C member, too.
